Charlie Buttrey has been practicing law since 1986, concentrating in the areas of personal injury and criminal defense in both New Hampshire and Vermont. His personal injury practice involves representing both clients who have suffered bodily injuries and the heirs of those who have lost their lives to negligence. His criminal defense practice ranges from homicides and aggravated felonious sexual assaults to DWIs and simple assaults. Attorney Buttrey has tried over forty cases to jury verdict, and has successfully argued appeals before the Supreme Courts of both New Hampshire and Vermont.
Attorney Buttrey is a member of the New Hampshire Bar Association, New Hampshire Association for Justice, New Hampshire Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, American Trial Lawyers Association, Vermont Bar Association and the Vermont Trial Lawyers Association.
A 1977 graduate of the Phillips Exeter Academy, Attorney Buttrey graduated from Princeton University in 1981, where he was a varsity letter winner and President of the Senior Class. In 1986, he graduated cum laude from Vermont Law School, where he was Chair of the Honor Committee.
Attorney Buttrey served on the Thetford (Vt.) School Board for twelve years, and is currently Moderator of the Church Council for the First Congregational Church in Thetford as well as a Trustee of Thetford Academy. He has served as Chair of the Thetford Budget Committee and the Thetford Board of Civil Authority and was Chair of Safeline, an organization designed to stop the cycle of domestic violence. He is the Race Director of the Foliage Five, an annual five-mile road race to benefit the Thetford Volunteer Fire Department. He has been a volunteer coach for youth soccer, football, basketball, baseball and softball, is a volunteer music director at a summer camp for children with cancer, and is an enthusiastic long-distance runner, regularly competing in road races at distances from 5k to marathons. He has finished in Boston Marathon-qualifying times on four separate occasions.
